Release Notes

Workaround to create SharePoint 2010 user profile exclusion filters using code and Powershell. This workaround uses reflection to invoke the same internal (hidden) classes that are used when you create an exclusion filter in the SharePoint UI. This workaround works for us, but we don't provide any warranty. It's certainly not supported by Microsoft as it's not based on invoking public SharePoint API's.

Use this at your own risk! Ventigrate cannot be held responsible if it breaks something. ;)

Overview of the available downloads

  • The Standalone Powershell workaround download can be used if you only want to use the workaround from within PowerShell. It comes with the necessary assemblies and example ps1 scripts, but no source code.
  • The Source & examples with Powershell support contains the workaround (both as .NET assembly as PowerShell cmdlets), with both source-code and examples. Following folders can be found in this archive:
    • VNTG.UserProfileFilters = .NET 3.5 project with the actual reflection-based workaround classes. Add this project/assembly to your own solution to create filters in your .NET project.
    • VNTG.UserProfileFilters.Examples = .NET 3.5 console application with some examples of the .NET workaround code
    • VNTG.UserProfileFilters.PowerShell = Class library holding the custom Powershell cmdlet definitions
    • VNTG.UserProfileFilters.PowerShell.Examples = Folder with some example ps1 scripts on how to use the custom Powershell cmdlets in SharePoint 2010's management shell
